About This Episode

I also talk about the power of making meaningful connections, adapting to remote work long before it became the norm, and why embracing change has been key to my journey. Plus, I’ll give you a sneak peek at what’s on the horizon for me and my business.

And I thought why not take a look at how it all happened, how it started, what led up to it, what’s happened along the way, learned along the way, and just have a little bit of a celebration and a reminisce over the past 10 years of KBN Ltd. So let us take a look back over the past 10 years and even more and see what’s coming up for the Future as well. Now, 10 years of being KBN Ltd. But Keith, you talk about having 15 years experience of helping people. Yes, yes, this is true. This is true. That’s probably the first thing we should address.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:02:24]:
I have 15 years experience of doing what I do, but I started the company that I’m, I’m doing it with or doing it through now, started that 10 years ago, before then. Before then. What happened before then? Well, some of you have, some of you have heard the story before, some of you won’t have heard the story before. I’ll keep it brief, but I worked in IT for 20 years, doing well in IT, reached the position of Fellow of the British Computer Society, which is the British professional body for all things it related because I worked in it, but I was painfully, painfully, painfully shy. Basically. I had social anxiety, terrified of the thought of speaking with people. One thing led to another. Eventually I Studied hypnosis and NLP in order to sort myself out and overcome all of this.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:03:19]:
The stories out there. There’s a podcast episode about it you can check out or check the, check the website as well. But I studied NLP hypnosis thinking I would just sort myself out. Found that I really enjoyed it, found I was good at it, found I was able to help people get great results. Thought you know what, it would be nice, it would be fun to set up and be a coach because I’ve been in it for so many years, fifth and fifth of a century, two decades in it, time for something a little bit different. But I had a high paying, high paid IT job. I had the high outgoings that go along with that, including my house, my house, which somewhere to live. And it was also kind of my pension investment.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:04:01]:
The idea being once I reach pension age, sell house, downsize that could fund a significant chunk of my pension. So I didn’t want to lose the house. I’d spent years buying it, investing in it, didn’t want to lose it, couldn’t afford the drop in income that going from this IT job to being self employed would have, would have meant. So it was kind of like just an unrealised dream. It’s like yeah, it would be nice to do that but. And then magnificent stroke of luck. I was called into the director’s office and I was told because of the financial situation, we’re having to make some positions, we’re having to get rid of some positions. Unfortunately, your position is now redundant.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:04:43]:
Basically, here’s a wheelbarrow full of cash. Never come back. Well, talk about waiting for a sign. If ever there was a sign, that was it. So left it. Set up as a coach initially just doing, doing coaching in my spare time. In my own time I was figuring out where do I go with this, what am I going to do with all of this. And fairly quickly I realised, you know what, going to need to set up in business.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:05:16]:
Oh, exciting stuff. So I set up a business. 25th of July 2011, Be Your Change Limited was born. Why Be Your Change? Well at the time I was looking for a company name and I quite liked the phrase be your change. Of course I’m not the only one who likes that. Like that phrase domain was taken. Companies were registered in that name. That was a no go.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:05:42]:
But be your change, nobody taking that. So registered with that, got the domain, registered the company. 25 July 2011 set up. Yay. This is my own company now. Woohoo. Oh Boy, they don’t tell you how difficult it is, how hard it is to really get it going. Plodded along for a couple of years, finding it really hard, gradually, slowly building up, doing the whole networking thing, all of this.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:06:17]:
And then at the beginning of 2013, I was contacted by a guy called Chris Howard, who. He was the guy whose trainings I’d studied in order to become certified in NLP hypnosis, right the way up to train the training level, certified NLP hypnosis speaking, all that of stuff. And he happened to be moving out to Bali. He was having a bit of a. Bit of a rejig of things. He was moving out to Bali, setting up, he called it Rock House Global, setting up in Bali. We’d done some stuff together in the past. I’d been on all of his courses, all of his programs, and he knew that I was done, was in it.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:07:04]:
He said, hey, I’m setting this stuff up. I need somebody to come out both to help with the general staff and the training and everything, but also someone who can help set up, get the IT side of things going. It’s like, okay, Chris, well, I’ll come out for three months, help you get that stuff set up now, come back to the uk, carry on with my own business. He said, yeah, that’s absolutely fine, that’s fine. Now it’s really interesting. I mentioned earlier my house, the thing, the one thing I did not want to lose straight after our conversation, it’s like, right, put the house on the market, sell it, liquidate that, go out to Bali for three months, come back and then I can set up anywhere in the uk. So suddenly the house, which had been the one non negotiable, the one thing I could not part with at all, up for sale, sold it. I got really lucky when I put it up for sale.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:08:03]:
Sorry, I’m getting all excited there, just remembering all this stuff. When I put it up for sale, two developers got into a bidding war. So the price went up pretty quickly. They were both developers, so they had no chain or anything. So the house sold in record time. And before I knew it, April 2013, I was out in Bali. So I kind of put be your change, limited. So I was like, I’ll just put a hold on that for a little bit for the three months I’m out in Bali.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:08:36]:
Went out there, had an absolute blast. Chris was really sneaky. He got me to deliver one of the pieces of training while we were in Singapore. I was like, oh man, I love this. And he said, oh, well, I’m looking to develop some more trainers and it could be a lot. It’s like, oh, oh, man. All right, I’ll stay. So in the end, what was going to be three months, we’re 18 months together, working with this company in, in, in Bali, doing all sorts of stuff in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Nepal, Tibet, Vietnam, loads of stuff around that.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:09:20]:
In the end, after, after quite some time, Chris decided, you know what, he wanted to go back to the us. So I kind of followed him. The idea was we were gonna apply for a green card for me and he and I were going to build up the training company out in the us. But green cards, absolute pain to get hold of. Difficult. It takes a long time, it costs a fortune. And we sort of thought, you know what, it’s been a good, it’s been a good year and a half, but you’ve gone back home. I’m going to go back to my home and I’m going to pick up my company and build things up again.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:09:53]:
So that was the plan. I came back to the UK December 2014. Of course, nothing had been happening with the company with be youe Change Limited during, during those 18 plus months. So basically dissolved the company. Dissolved the company. The final dissolution came through on the 19th of January 2016, because you basically closed it all down. And then a year later it gets struck off. Companies house records.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:10:20]:
You can check all this on Companies houses. It’s all there. Excuse me. So, yeah, beginning of end of 2014, beginning of 2015, it’s like, you know, let’s close the company down because it had kind of gone into hibernation, there’d be no accounts submitted because there were no accounts or anything because it wasn’t, wasn’t traded, basically all that stopped trading. But I was thinking, you know what, I moved back to the UK and I moved up to northeast of Scotland, back, back home, basically. Family up here, friends up here, had no attachments to anywhere. It was like, yeah, fresh start. So I started back up here and I thought, hey, you know what, let’s start up a company and do the coaching thing properly this time.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:11:05]:
And on 25 June 2015, registered the company again. I called it Be Your Change Limited because it was. I thought that name seemed to seem to work. So set up the company 10 years ago, lots of networking, connecting with people online, of course, being based way up in the northeast of Scotland, face to face, physical networking, much less of an opportunity for that. But the Internet, brilliant. Plenty of ways of connecting with people online made Some really good connections, good contacts, good friends and yeah, always going well. 2015 the thing with business, when you set up in business and thing with so many things is what I’ve found is it is harder than you think, it takes longer than you think, it costs more than you think, but it is worth, worth so much more than you could ever imagine when you stick at it and get it right. And sometimes you have to do stuff to get by.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:12:14]:
You have to do stuff to survive. I took a part time job for a bit when income for the business was really low. Nothing wrong with that. Took a part time job, part time working at McDonald’s and actually that was really good fun because I was working on the customer, customer facing bit. You know, the one who greets you when you come in, helps with any problems, guide you through it all, make sure you have a good, good experience there. That was really good fun getting to connect with people, trying out all sorts of different ways of interacting with people. Absolutely loved it. So I had to do that for a while just to, just to keep the money coming in.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:12:51]:
Hey, you do what you have to do to make it work right now. After a while with Be Your Change, I kind of realised I ended up almost mushrooming the brands, different brands in it because I had be youe Change Ltd. I had a brand Winning in Life and Work where I’d done the four winning and by the end of it four, I think earlier, I think at the point I did the rebranding, there might have been only three, three or four books in the Winning in Life and Work series. That was a brand on it in its own right. I was branding myself as the Confidence Alchemist which then transitioned into the Fear Strategist because that’s where I was focusing, focusing initially on confidence and then transitioned that into fear as it was becoming more apparent. That’s where more of the customers were coming from. And so I had to also had product brands, Freedom From Phobia and various ones. It’s like, oh my word, there’s so many brands.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:13:54]:
Even I get lost thinking of all the brands that I’ve got. How are people ever going to figure out who’s what? You know what, it’s time for a rebrand. But to what? Name it? What can I change the name to now? When I first set up and came up with a name, Be Your Change Ltd. I’d had advice of don’t set the company up as your name because when it grows and you have to separate you from the company, all sorts of rebranding and bars, big problems, etc, etc. So that’s why I hadn’t named it as me. But when it came to doing this rebrand, I had a look around, I was thinking, okay, let’s have a look at how others… Because I was doing coaching, speaking at that point. I also had HypnoTainment because I was doing sort of hypnosis and magic entertainment.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:14:47]:
Partly because it’s jolly good fun. I really must get back into that one of these days. Miss those days. But also partly because it’s a good way of showing people the power of all this stuff. So all these different brands, I was thinking, okay, coach, magician, hypnotist or entertainer, blah, blah, all these things. Let’s have a look at some of the top people in those industries. What names do they call their company? See if I can get some inspiration. So I had a look like Paul Daniels.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:15:13]:
The company is Paul Daniels Limited. Darren Brown Company’s Darren Brown Limited. Okay, Tony Robbins, Anthony Robbins Companies. There is a theme here. There is a definite pattern forming in here. Why not, when you come right down to it, what am I selling? I’m selling me. I’m selling me. And I’m the one who can help you take back control of your life.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:15:41]:
I’m the one who can help you quit smoking. I’m the one who can help you get over your phobias. I’m the one who can help you conquer your mindset blocks. It’s. It’s me. And so it was. I decided, you know what? To heck with it. Consolidate everything under the one brand.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:15:58]:
Keith Blakemore Noble Ltd. So the company was renamed and that’s what it’s been ever since Keith Blakemore Noble Limited. Now, I mentioned that. No, no, I did keep the. To keep the brand name Be youe Change. And I kept the domain name beyourchange.co.uk because the first three books in winning in Life and Work had all been published under that brand. And they had a link in there to BeYourChange.co.uk to find out more. So I thought, you know what? Let’s keep the brand.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:16:30]:
Let’s keep that brand name and we’ll use that for any subsequent books that I do. I’ve done six so far. So they’re all published by Be Change Ltd. Sorry, they’re all published by Be Your Change, an imprint of Keith Blake Wonder Limited. Oh, sounds cool. So, yes, up in the northeast of Scotland, million miles away from. From anywhere, working with people remotely, using Zoom. Before that, using Skype Sadly, Skype is no longer with us, but Zoom absolutely is.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:17:04]:
I’d been connected with network organisation for networking. I was in their free Facebook group, connecting with lots of people there. And on more than one occasion I said to Brad Burton, the founder of For N. I also said to Pippa, Pippa Hodge, who was Brad’s right hand man at the time, that if there was any way I could ever get more involved, I would be there like a shot. This takes us to November 2019. Pippa persuaded Brad to let them try an online version of Foray. Brad was like, oh, that would never work. They created an online version and as soon as I saw it was like, red, I’m up for that.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:17:56]:
Pippa tells me I was the very first person to sign up for it. Dived in, thought, you know what, if I’m going to be involved in this, I want to be fully involved. Let’s set up one of the groups, set up a group, help run the group. It was great fun. I was finally able to attend regular, regular network meetings, building more connections, more contacts, having more fun. And the interesting thing is a few months later, four months, because you might have noticed the date 19th, November 2019. Four months later, the country, indeed the world pretty much shuts down with COVID and the pandemic and lockdowns. For N was in a good position because we created these online versions of networking.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:18:43]:
We were able to, I’m going to say the word pivot. The whole of the offline business overnight pivoted to online. That’s what really saved for. And many other, many other network companies kind of collapsed because they weren’t able to build the online. Because 4N had this online already. It was able to just transition and grow that. And that was, that was a lot of fun. But also the really big thing with, with lockdown in 2020, I’d always been telling people, hey, I can work with you remotely.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:19:23]:
We can, we can do these, this stuff over Zoom. Some people were like, yeah, let’s do it. And that’s why I’m still able to work with people like as far away as New Zealand. Can’t get much further away than that. But some people were hesitant. And then lockdown came and suddenly pretty much everyone was on Zoom. Whether it was for business staff or whether it was for school stuff or whether it was social stuff, connecting with people suddenly got over their stuff about doing things online. And that really helped my business in a massive way because now instead of having to explain to people how online stuff Works and how we can get them set up, blah, blah, blah.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:20:06]:
Now it’s a simple case of how do we do this? But we’ll do it on Zoom. Okay, send me the link. I’ll be there. Bam. It’s amazing that complete change that happened overnight. Overnight. And also. And also gave rise to book number five, the Masks We Wear.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:20:24]:
Because when I started in for N thought, right, you know what, I’m going to do a talk, because in the meetings you get to do a 20 minute talk. So I created one called initially it was called eight Powerful Words. I created the talk, got amazing feedback from it, refined and honed it, took the talk around multiple different meetings many, many, many times over the first few months. And that enabled me to, based on all the feedback and the questions, to really refine and hone it to a much more powerful talk. And a number of times people were saying, oh, you should turn this into a book. This is really good stuff. And I was thinking, no, I mean, it’s a 20 minute talk. But more and more people saying, is it a book yet? Is it a book? I want more.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:21:10]:
I want more. And so it was. The Masks We Wear was born. Change the name from eight Powerful Words to the Masks We Wear expanded upon the content from that, the talk, the Mask We Wear, it became my lockdown book, my lockdown project, basically. And that all came about because of that. So that was book number five, which was good, fun. Book number six, of course, came out a couple years later. Anti Manipulation.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:21:36]:
In part because of discussions I had with connections that I’d made through networking and an accountability partner that I had, accountability buddy Paul Newton and I, we connected at an event, stayed in contact, chatted with each other on Zoom pretty much every single week since then. Sadly, we lost Paul. Sadly, we lost Paul last year. But discussions with him and many others resulted in anti manipulation. It’s amazing the connections that you make as you continue business. You never know who, who you’re going to connect with, what direction things are going to go. So, yeah, 10 years of. 10 years of coaching or, sorry, 10 years of the business, most of the time it’s working with people, one to one coaching.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:22:33]:
And the great thing about the way that I work with people is for most of their stuff, single session, bam, it’s done, problem’s gone. They conquer it in one single session. None of this, hey, let’s have six months, one single session, bam, done. Which is great for them. Not so good for cash flow because you need a steady stream of new clients with some help. From another good friend of mine, Caroline Jane Andrew. I long wanted to create like an online membership community platform, subscription based. But I was thinking, how can I do it? Make it affordable but without giving everything away.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:23:15]:
She helped me. We came up with what was the Mindset Mastery Movement online. There are three different levels. Monthly content, right the way up to one to one. Coaching. Ran that for about a year and a bit, Created loads of content for it. Found it was, it was great fun helping people with that as well. And from everything that I learned from that, early this year, sort of thought, you know what, we can tweak it.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:23:46]:
The name Mindset Mastery Movement, it’s a bit. Okay, well, that’s nice. It’s a bit vanilla. I wanted something that kind of stood out. Says, this is, well, to quote words from the Mastery where this is me, this is who I am, this is the club, this is what it is. Tweaking what we already had, adding in a free layer which lets people sample it and then see just how much value they get from it and upgrade. I mean, the paid version starts at just £25 a month, so we’re not talking massive investments here. And so it was after a random chat with Caroline, came up with having a chat with her and went, oh, oh, I’ve got a name, but, oh, I don’t know.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:24:39]:
She said, go on, tell me, what is it then? And I told her, oh, I love that. Well, let me, let me sit with it for a week or two just to see. I mentioned it to a couple of other trusted people. They both went, oh, I love that name. And so it was the Overachievers Club idea was formed. Makes it clear exactly what it stands for. Some people go, oh, I hate the idea of that. I don’t want to be in that.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:25:06]:
And that’s absolutely fine. Other people will go, oh, I’ve got to get me some of that. Tell me more. It’s like a Marmite kind of name. Some people will hate it, some people will love it. And that’s all right because everything that we do in life, some people will hate. Some people will love. Anything that you do in life, some people will hate, some will love.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:25:25]:
That’s just the way it is. It’s almost as if I’m learning from what I put in the masks we wear. Oh, interesting. So right now, as I record this, I’m recording this like four days, five days before the 10th birthday of Keith Blakemore-Noble Limited at the same time, we’re launching the Overachievers Club. So anyone who’s in the original club moves across automatically. They keep their old subscription fee as well. That’s always going to be a feature anytime you sign up with a club or whatever. If fees rise in the future you will stay grandfathered in at your existing price.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:26:04]:
Why would you do it any other way? So yes, right now it’s quite exciting. Celebrating 10 years of Keith Blakemore Noble Limited celebrating the launch of the Overachievers Club which is built on a year and a half of the mindset Mastery Movement Learning from that Creating something that knows what it is Stands for what it is offers four membership levels from free taster £25 a month for the basic one right the way up to the top one which includes half an hour one to one coaching per month covers the full range. That’s where I am right now. That should be enough for 2025. 2026? Oh I have got some plans for that. Oh yes, some book stuff is in development. Not going to say anymore. Looking at I want to get back into doing live events as well.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:27:01]:
So maybe 2026 we’ll have some live events. There is the faint possibility of teaching, training, training people in nlp, hypnosis, coaching, speaking from stage, training people up in those. Get back into that again. Want to pace it? Do it when the time is right. If any of that’s of interest, ping me a line. Let me know. If there’s enough interest we’ll get it going sooner rather than later. And the other thing is the bow tie and three piece suit will be coming back.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:27:36]:
Kind of fallen by the wayside but they’re very very very much a key part of the brand and helps with brand recognition as well. I mean I’ve been to events where people have come from the other side of the room and gone. I thought it was you. I recognised the bow tie. So they will be returning as well. But that’s it for now. 10 years of Keith Blakemore-Noble Ltd , 15 years of helping people to take back control of their lives and unleash their brains full potential. Here’s looking to many more years of it Helping continuing to connect with people around the world and help them around the world.
Keith Blakemore-Noble [00:28:14]:
Maybe even connect with you. Help you if needed, but connect with you even if you don’t need help. It’s always nice connecting with others. Let me know what you think. Have we connected in the past?
