Held Back By Baggage From The Past?

Why Are Grudges Bad?

When you’re hurt by anyone, it doesn’t matter whether you liked them or not, whether you trusted them or not; when you are hurt or betrayed or let down by them, you might become angry, sad or confused. Dwelling on these events and feelings starts to fill you with resentment, unresolved anger, and allows hostility and even thoughts of vengeance to take hold.

And when you then let these negative feelings to overwhelm and bloat out any positive emotions and feelings, you can (and often will) end up drowning in your own bitterness.

All of which harms you significantly; and, to make things worse from your perspective, all of which has absolutely zero impact on the object of your bitterness – they are totally unaware and unaffected, while you allow all this negativity to eat away at you and hold you back.

What is forgiveness?

Generally, forgiveness is a decision to let go of resentment and thoughts of revenge. The act that hurt or offended you might always remain a part of your life, but forgiveness can lessen its grip on you and help you focus on other, more positive parts of your life. Forgiveness can even lead to feelings of understanding, empathy and compassion for the one who hurt you.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean that you deny the other person’s responsibility for hurting you, and it doesn’t minimise or justify the wrong. IT doesn’t mean forgetting what happened. You can remember and still forgive. You can forgive the person without excusing the act. Forgiveness brings a kind of peace that helps you go on with life. It’s all about letting go of the past, of that which you can not change, and being able to move on to focus on the present feed from the baggage of the past.

I am rid of the emotional baggage

The course was fantastic and really easy to complete. I struggled with letting go of the past, in particular forgiving someone for the way they treated me.

The lack of forgiveness meant I was holding myself back. I was unable to move forward.

I still see the person regularly and I no longer hold the grudge. When I see them I just feel no emotion towards them whatsoever.

If you are holding a grudge against anyone then you really should do this.

Really helped me get over some unpleasant stuff from my past

Like more people I guess, I had some unpleasant experiences in my past, especially with one particular person. I tried to move on over the years, but I still felt a lot of bitterness and resentment toward them, which was eating away at me, holding me back.

Surprisingly powerful, it’s definitely helped already.

I guess like many I was a bit skeptical at the idea that I could easily “forgive” and that it would make much of a difference, but I am so glad I did this!
I sat down with an open mind, when through everything, and mu goodness the change! I just feel so much “lighter” if that makes sense. There were a few specific things I needed to “let go” of, and now I’ve done it, it’s almost like I can’r even believe they ever bothered me at all. I’ve definitly moved on - wish I’d done this years ago to be honest.

Recommended for anyone wanting to let go of the past

I had some old unresolved issues, stuff going on in my head, and I wasn’t always able to completely let go of the past and things which had happened there. I don’t want to hold grudges and I wanted to let go of it all once and for all. I went through Keith’s Forward Through Forgiveness, and it really helped me. The process was easy and painless – I just had to sit back, close my eyes, and imagine the things Keith suggested. By the end of it, I’d managed to successfully let go of it all, to forgive things from the past, an to let go of several unwanted feelings, which has really helped me to move forward as a result.
